While having a band full of didgeridoos is a lot cooler than just dancing, it's still has a lot of repetitious elements. Like Creature stage, the only things to do here are impress or destroy. There are some city building elements here, but they are really basic (just three instruments and two different weapons). My guys got hungry really quickly, and the majority of the other tribal villages hated me so I was frequently attacked, which really screwed up my food supply. Tribal: I enjoyed this stage, but it was pretty frustrating at times. Spore has a lot of these jaw dropping moments, which few games have these days. Walking around with other creatures, only for them to all run off because of a massive alien spaceship hovering above really puts the scope of the game in perspective. Hearing thunder while the screen is shaking, only to turn around to find out it's an epic is pretty exhilarating. Hunting with packs was actually kind of fun, too bad by the time you get to use this at your full potential the level is almost over.ĭespite my qualms, it does have some amazing moments. They should let you have a large pack from the very beginning instead of having to earn another member.

Instead of talking to the same monster three times in a row, why can't I be rewarded for climbing a mountain? Or finding a river? Or an epic? Also, the pack idea was implemented really poorly. For one thing, a different variety of missions. There are a few ways it could've been improved. However, you are really limited, as it's almost sort of an RPG as you basically just hope you find a body part that has "dance +1 from what you already have." You can't really shape your creature the way you want, you instead have to pick which parts have the best stats. You also have to go look for parts to evolve, as eventually the creatures become more demanding on your dance moves. What's also annoying is that a lot of creatures are pissed at you for no reason and will not hesitate to kill you. You could also kill them, which is a bit more exciting, but it's still really repetitive and they go really crazy with the numbers here (kill SEVEN of these guys? Screw that). It's just a waste of time to show off my dance moves to three of the same type of creature. Why do I have to impress THREE of a certain species? They're basically clones of each other, if I can impress one I can impress the others. The way the missions were executed was really poor. At first it was cool to see all these different creatures, but then it got incredibly repetitive as you could only do one thing with them. There was really only one thing to do, and two ways to do it. I thought the whole nests idea with migration was really interesting, but everything else wasn't. This is probably my least favorite level, although it does have some things going for it. I know a version of this mode is on iPhone, so hopefully it's as good as this.Ĭreature: Here's where the hate begins for a lot of people. The creatures you come across in the level are also pretty intimidating and ferocious, but you can easily wipe them out when you get awesome attacks like poison and electricity. The primordial ooze is not a typical level you see in a video game, and it was pretty awe-inspiring to see an interpretation of the world on a cellular level.

It was always satisfying to eat a creature that terrorized you earlier. Here's a breakdown of the stages, with my thoughts:Ĭell: This stage is actually one of my favorites.

However, those who make up their own goals to accomplish are sure to have a blast with the game, as it gives you so much freedom to do what you want. Getting to the center of the galaxy is the closest thing to beating it I suppose) are sure to be disappointed. Fuck that shit, I'm already an omnipotent badass, that'll do for me. I have no desire to pass through the Grox. I guess I was playing it with the intention of "passing" the stage, where as the stage is designed with a more open "you're going to be playing this for MONTHS" mentality. I derived some enjoyment later on once I bought the Heat/Refrigeration rays and the cloud accumulators and figured out that pink spice=$$$$$$. I bought a full fleet of them and just annihalated everyone else. It was basically over once I unlocked planes though. The Civ Stage was actually a cool stage for me. Required a little bit more thinking than the somewhat mindless creature stage, which I appreciated. I've heard from friends that it's much funner if you play a mix of both aggressive and friendly. I had a lot of fun with the cell stage for what it was, it was cool growing bigger and customising. I actually got this game while the thread was dead, so I've yet to post about it.
